Hair Mask to Repair Damage

Estimated read time 3 min read

I started the journey to hopefully achieve a platinum balayage. About 2 months ago, I had my first session where my hair took a copper color I don’t mind but also don’t prefer. After giving my hair about 4 weeks to recover, I went a second time and the results were much better, not so much copper and it is starting to head in the right direction.

As we all know, lightening hair, especially dyed hair, is extremely difficult and does not come without consequences. I did not see a lot of damage to my hair after the first session. I was strongly recommended to use a product called: OlaPlex. After this treatment, my hair felt very soft and the color was lighter, but I had some very visible damage. The ends started to look wiry, and my hair needed a break. However, I really didn’t want to cut it since I am trying to let it grow. No, the myth of cutting hair so it grows has been debunked! Hair grows from the root, not the tips.

I have been experimenting with different products and hair masks to try to achieve a healthier look. I looked up some recipes on Pinterest, but I ended up mixing my own mask with some of the ingredients I already had in my pantry. I woke up this morning and my hair looks and feels great! So, I thought, why not share this discovery with the world! The ingredients I used are the following and I am also listing their benefits:

  • Aloe Vera leaf: promotes hair growth, prevents itching on the scalp, reduces dandruff and conditions your hair. This is very easy to grow even in your own backyard. Just plant one leaf and watch it take over your yard. I will be speaking about the many benefits of this plant in more detail on another post.
  • Banana: improve manageability and shine, prevent and control dandruff, and adds moisture to your scalp. It also strengthens your hair thanks to the high potassium content.
  • 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil: prevent hair loss, reduces hair damage, condition hair. I highly recommend this brand, I have been using their shampoo, toner, and hair treatment and I love all their products. They are natural products with great benefits and as an added benefit smell delish!
  • Avocado oil: prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.
  • Raw eggs: remove excess oils from your scalp and hair, strengthen hair follicles and roots, nourish and add moisture to hair and scalp.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave for 20 seconds, I set it aside and let it cool for about 1 minute.
  2. While the coconut oil cools, peed the Aloe Vera leaf and cut it into smaller pieces.
  3. Add the ingredients to a blender or food processor: eggs, banana, avocado oil, and Aloe Vera and mix these for about 5 seconds.
  4. Add the cooled coconut oil and mixed once again for about 7 seconds.
  5. Pour the mix into a ziplock bag, cut one of the corners,  and apply to hair while massaging roots and ends.
  6. Leave the mask on for about 1 hour and then rinse it off with cold water.

My hair felt so soft after this and almost like there was no damage. I will continue to do this treatment weekly while pairing it with adding coconut oil to my tips daily. Let me know of any tips or tricks you have learned for healthy hair in the comments below.
